Prerequisite Skills, 1.1-1.6
Well, to begin the Advanced Functions course, there is no doubt that we started with Chapter 1. Now, what is Chapter 1? Chapter 1 is actually Polynomial Functions. It concerns the properties as well as the key features of graphs of polynomial functions and their transformations too. Not only that, the chapter also covers about the concept of average and instantaneous rate of change.
Before we started any further with the chapter, we had to go through the prerequisite skills. Basically we need to sharpen some of our math skills so we that can understand the chapter a whole lot easier and better as well. The prerequisite skills cover mostly concepts that we would have already learned during out high school years.
Then, we continued with the subtopics of 1.1 until 1.6. The subtopic 1.1 is about power functions and is easy if the concepts are understood well. Subtopic 1.2 would then touch on the characteristics of polynomial functions. The concepts in this subtopic are definitely very new to me so it did take some time for me to fully understand it. However, once I understood it, it became clear to me. Next, we did subtopic 1.3, equations and graphs of polynomial functions. This subtopic was a little tough for me especially for the part of analyzing equations to sketch graphs. I had a little trouble with that but after some practice, I started to understand it more. But, I still need more practice for that part.
