Chapter 2: Polynomial Equations and Inequalities

Hey, and here is another post. Well, for the past week, we did quite a lot for Advanced Functions. First of all, it is the first major test, for Chapter 1. Boy, that was kind of scary. I was satisfied with how I did, although I could work on the mistakes that I have made. Besides the test, we moved on with Chapter 2.

Here are some videos that I have found regarding the first chapter, Polynomial Functions. Take a look.

Here is a video broken into 2 parts for the families of polynomial functions. Enjoy!

We studied about the factor theorem, polynomial equations and families of polynomial equations. To sum it up, it is a little confusing for me. To solve the questions, I still need a little clarification. However, I am working on it to fully understand this chapter. Furthermore, we were introduced to our second project, 'The Math Trail'. It is to connect mathematics together with the things around us, such as buildings, plants, and food. So, this is pretty much it. Looking forward to learn more :)

Chapter 2: Polynomial Equations and Inequalities

The Remainder Thereom

Well, after ending chapter 1, we moved on with Chapter 2. So, what is chapter two? Chapter 2 is no other than Polynomial Equations and Inequalities. We started the chapter with the Remainder Thereom. When I first saw what was written on the board, I didn't understand a single thing and was just absolutely confused. However, after the explanation, I actually found it to be quite simple. The saying is true, "never judge a book by its cover". This concept can be applied in real life as well. For example, if we were to find the height or distance or such when we were given the polynomial expression, we are able to find it using this concept. So, it does play a part in our life. This is it for summary of this subtopic.

Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.

Let's Talk Math! Project

Well, we had our very first presentation for the Advanced Functions course. It was for the project, Let's Talk Math!. My group consisted of Sum Yee, Mikee, Lee Fong and myself. We were the first group to start off this project so we presented on the first chapter, Polynomial Functions. After forming the group, we divided the different jobs to everyone. We had our own responsibilities and carried them out.

On the day of the presentation, we were definitely nervous. We were the first group so it was even worse. But, when we started on our presentation, we grew more comfortable. Everyone was listening to our presentation. With that, we were grateful and appreciated everyone's attention. An unfortunate problem that we encountered during the presentation was the slides' appearance on the screen. Due to projector's color saturation, the slides appeared to be a little greenish which made some of the elements of the presentation a little blur. Besides, the video presented during the presentation was a little soft and it did prove to be a little of a trouble to listen to. Other than that, we had no other technical problems.
